Hope Cowgill | inBalance - San Antonio

inBalance founder and creator, and fitness and wellness expert, Hope Pedraza, fell in love with dance at the age of 3 and has yet to stop moving. Born and raised a Southern girl in Louisiana, Hope Cowgill Pedraza has had a passion for rhythm and movement since she could walk, and danced her way through high school and college before discovering the benefits of Pilates and the mindfulness of yoga. This strengthening and flexibility enhancing exercise appealed to her as a dancer and came as second nature.

After a decade of teaching fitness and earning certifications in fitness and Pilates, including becoming a licensed Fletcher provider, a 500 Hour BASI Comprehensive Pilates, a Certified Personal Trainer through ACSM, a certified Nutrition Coach through NAFC as well as The Nutritious Life and is a Board Certified Member of the America Association of Drugless Practitioners, Hope opened inBalance, a fitness and wellness studio offering yoga, pilates, barre, dance and fitness classes in San Antonio, Texas.

Her goal with inBalance is to help others enjoy the exhilaration of Pilates and dance and the peace-of-mind that true health brings. While running her business in its start up phase with a full time job, Hope eventually “retired” from her day job as a high school teacher and dance team coach, so she could devote her time and energy to her studio, to focus on her true passion and love of health and fitness, share the concepts and techniques of Pilates and her love of movement with other people, to provide a sense of belonging and community, and to educate them on the power of purposeful movement.

Hope is best known for her high energy barre, pilates and dance cardio classes. She developed the inBalance Barre® Certification program to showcase her love and talent for teaching and developing barre and fitness classes, and to propagate a lifestyle that demonstrates a love of movement and prides itself on connecting the mind, body, and spirit for wholeness. She uses this program to motivate and inspire her clients as well as other fitness enthusiasts, to combine dance movements she loves with other methods, like yoga and Pilates, to make these modes of movement accessible to everyone, even non-dancers.

Hope is a member of the San Antonio Mayor’s Fit Council, the contributing blogger for the FitCity SA fitness blog, as well as a contributing Fitness Editor for SA Monthly magazine. She has experience working with various college level sports teams in strength and condition including the Louisiana Tech football, boys’ and girls’ basketball, teams, and the Trinity Baseball team, and is now the go-to fitness expert for strength and conditioning for numerous dance teams in San Antonio and surrounding areas and works with high school teams including O’Connor, Reagan, Churchill, Clark and Boerne and has worked with dancers from Heather Stolle’s School of Dance and Lone Star Collective. To schedule trainings with your team email Hope@inbalancesanantonio.com.

Hope is an Aerobics and Fitness Association (AFFA) and Nation College of Sports Medicine (NASM) Continuing Education Provider, and hosts her studio as an official BASI Teacher Training Studio.

Ashley Ludwick | inBalance - San Antonio

Where were you born and raised?
born in Kansas, raised in Ft.Worth

How did you get started in health and fitness?
I got started on my Yoga journey in January 2000 because I thought "I could exercise sitting down". It didn't take long for me to develop a relationship with the practice and it has enriched my life in more ways than I can count.

What is your favorite class to teach?
My favorite class to teach is the one where students disconnect with the outer world long enough to nourish themselves and rest in a state of steady ease, sthira-sukha.

What do you want every person to get out of your class?
I want yoga students to have a relaxing, stress reducing experience in my class.

When she isn't doing her downward dogs or practicing her asanas, Ashley likes hanging out with her daughter, enjoying fresh salads and, of course, spreading the word of yoga. Oh, and her favourite yoga position is the Ardha Chandrasana (half moon pose).

How did you get started in health and fitness?
After becoming a mom, I was determine to reignite my fitness journey. I tried routine exercise at the gym and other small studios in the area when I was fortunate to find inBalance in June of 2013. This is where I truly learned how to push myself beyond traditional workouts and realized I could challenge my body further and extend this same motivation to others. I began my first Piloxing certification in December 2015, followed by Piloxing Knockout in February 2016, Piloxing Barre in April and inBalance Barre in the fall.

What is your favorite class to teach?
I love all the formats, but my favorite class is Piloxing SSP. It's a full body workout and I love the powerful movements of boxing and Pilates delivered through an intense interval workout. The power of the boxing ignites a good burn and empowerment within myself and my students. The Pilates strengthens our muscles and core balance, add some dance to that and it's a party, which makes it fun and fast paced workout while burning up to 1200 calories in an hour, depending on level of effort. My runner up class is Barre Bounce!

What do you want every person to get out of your class?
I want my students to feel they had a great workout and excited to come back for more. I also want them to realize their full potential and know what their body is capable of doing over time. Most importantly, I want them to feel the support they have from me and others in the studio to help them achieve all of their fitness goals.

How did you get started in health and fitness?
In college, group fitness started out as a stress reliever and hobby for me and eventually morphed into a passion. I worked at UTSA for 5 years in student affairs and career counseling full-time before deciding to stay at home with my two kiddos. I fell "in love" with barre after finding inBalance studio in 2015 and decided to take a leap of faith by pursing fitness instruction which now gives me the flexibility to put my family first.

What is your favorite class to teach?
inBalance Barre

What do you want every person to get out of your class?
A whole lot of fun and a little bit of sweat (OK maybe a lot of sweat too).

What is your favorite class to teach?

How did you get started in health and fitness?
I was a runner for 20 years but had to stop due to 2 hip surgeries. I started doing yoga, Pilates, and strength training. Then I started taking Barre 3 years ago and fell in love with it! It was the first fitness regimen that actually changed my body. So I became certified and I love teaching! I am also a certified nutrition coach! I love to cook and serve people. I think was born in the kitchen!

How did you get started in health and fitness?
I danced from childhood through college, where I studied Kinesiology. I went on to earn my Doctorate in Physical Therapy, so you could say I've been studying movement my whole life! After I became a mom, I looked for ways to incorporate my love of movement into my busy life and found a home at InBalance!

What is your favorite class to teach?
I love all my classes for different reasons! Barre comes most naturally to me because of my background in dance, but I love the balance of strength and flexibility in Pilates and Barefoot Bootcamp is just a good sweat!

What do you want every person to get out of your class?
I would like each person leaving my class to feel that they have gotten a balanced full-body workout, that they have cleared their minds for some time, and that they have gained a some confidence in the process!

Sheri Huehn

How did you get started in health and fitness?
I found fitness when I took on an office job and found that my new sedentary lifestyle was the contributing factor to my recent weight gain. I then followed a successful girl on youtube who helped me develop a passion for pilates and loving your workouts no matter how much they burn! Home videos are great but actually getting out to a class shows a different level of commitment and results, and that is why I chose to change my career to becoming a group fitness instructor.

What is your favorite class to teach?
[Soon to be] Pilates Rhythm and Flow

What do you want every person to get out of your class?
A smile and a good sweat!

How did you get started in health and fitness?
I have always lived a very active lifestyle. As soon as I could hold up a softball glove, my dad had me out in our back yard playing catch. Let’s just say I started young and have been going strong ever since. I was involved in sports all throughout childhood and high school. In college, without having an actual sports team to compete on, I continued to find what worked best for me with fitness and nutrition. The older I get, the more in tune I become with my body and knowing what works. I love learning something new every day, especially about nutrition and how to properly fuel our bodies. Most recently, I just received my NASM certified personal training certification and I can’t wait to see where this opportunity leads me.

What is your favorite class to teach?
As of right now, I am certified in Piloxing. I absolutely love teaching this class! This class can really make you work up a sweat. It’s such a fun class that the hour passes by without you even realizing it! I am also working on getting certified to teach InBalance Interval. Once I am certified I don’t think I will be able to pick a favorite between these two! I love Interval because you get that full-body workout in less than an hours’ time… what more could you ask for in a workout?!

What do you want every person to get out of your class?
I work towards creating a training environment that not only motivates but empowers individuals to continually challenge themselves.I believe that fitness is here to be enjoyed! It provides us with the ability to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle. The beauty is that you get to choose your own fitness adventure. Which is why InBalance is the perfect place to find your niche in the fitness world because the options for class styles are endless.

Sheri Huehn

Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised in Pearsall, Texas and have made San Antonio my home for many years

How did you get started in health and fitness?
I love my profession, but I often find it tends to lend itself to a sedentary day. I wanted to incorporate more opportunities in my day to feel motivated, strong and energetic. I began researching and learning about the best ways to care for my body, mind and soul. I wanted to feel a unique sense of balance in my daily life. As a result, I created a routine that incorporated daily meditation and exercise. After a while, it became a part of my life and essential to the balance I feel all humans need to continue to be kind to ourselves, while caring for our families and others. I have found that I am able to bring forth my best when I am feeling my best.

When I started taking classes at InBalance Studio, several years ago, I found a great studio that provided everything I needed to reach my goals, from Yoga, Barre, Pilates, InBalance body classes to Piloxing! I wanted to share the love and enthusiasm that I was feeling during my workouts with others looking to make it fun, while still getting an awesome challenging workout. Inspired by the amazing instructors and my love for health and wellness, I decided to obtain my Piloxing SSP certification and start teaching the class. I want to share how a great work out can really transform your day and how in the midst of our daily lives, we all deserve this time to care for ourselves!

What is your favorite class to teach?
Piloxing SSP, but I love taking all of the classes!!

What do you want every person to get out of your class?
I want them to get a fun, safe, and challenging workout that provides strength and cardio training while having a super fun time! I want every person to leave feeling amazing and that they have inspired themselves, by showing up for themselves and doing a little more than they did the day before!

Adriana Alvarez-Tostado | inBalance - San Antonio

Hi everyone! I'm Adriana! I was born in New Jersey, moved around with my family quite a bit but mainly grew up in Mexico City.My blog ToastyA.com (a style and travel blog) came to be because of tennis (yep not the traditional fashion background) I wanted something I could do while traveling, to be able to escape the routine and share my experiences about the places I go with a little bit of fashion mixed into it.

This space is built mainly to inspire girls who love fashion but are at times a bit scared to go for it, reminding them that you don't have to be a model to have amazing style! Also my "Where tos" when it comes to traveling and new places to visit.

I've been training and competing on a high level for most of my life now, and although this was not a part of ToastyA, I am excited to be able to share my experiences, favorite workouts (or which ones I avoid... we all have a few we hate:) ) and new ways to be healthy. I am so excited to be partnering with InBalance and being able to work together.

Where were you born and raised?

How did you get started in health and fitness?
I have been taking dance classes of all styles since I was two years old. I realized at a young age that I loved to move and I loved being in shape. I started teaching dance classes at 16 in my home town and soon moved to Pittsburgh PA to study modern Dance. While obtaining my B.A. in dance from Point Park University I was advised to cross train in other forms of fitness and movement to learn more about the human anatomy. I started to understand the benefits of cross training, and how it help maintain a healthy and stronger body. In College I was introduced to Pilates, Yoga and Barre. It was amazing to learn how dance, yoga and Pilates all support each other and this hooked me!

What is your favorite class to teach, or what are you most excited to teach?
The classes that gets me most excited to teach are the Barre classes and also would love to teach the Body classes one day as well. These two are most comfortable to me because of my dance background. Specifically what I like about these two classes is the intensity, the amount of material covered, and the thought out repetition that targets certain muscle groups. I love all the classes offered at InBalance, and I believe in the wide variety that is offered, and I think that all of the classes should be tried by every person at least once because they each have something specific and special to offer.

What do you want everyone to get out of your class?
What I want everyone to get out of my class is self satisfaction in knowing that they made an effort to improve themselves. Ultimately I do want everyone to feel they had a great workout that challenged their body and mind, while waking up the next day and feeling their hard work paying off! I hope the people taking my class feel comfortable and accepted knowing that the hardest part is getting yourself into the studio, because the human body and mind in conjunction are incredibly strong when tested! I love the people that give a good effort in class because that inspires me to try my very best!

Diana Duncan

Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised on Long Island, NY in a suburb of New York City. I became interested in health, fitness and movement when I was in high school working at our local "health food" store that had a completely macrobiotic deli. I was all in and took the dive into living within macrobiotic principles, finding out about mediation, yoga and all aspects of holistic health. These experiences stayed with me and influenced my life every day since that time. After university I discovered my interest in healing was greater than my enthusiasm for working in an office so I quit my job to study massage therapy. During my training I discovered both pilates and yoga and went on to do a few teacher trainings in order to deepen my personal knowledge of those disciplines.

How did you get started in health, fitness or movement?
Movement is life, movement is healing and I knew that I wanted to share and educate my table clients on ways to get out of pain and stay out of pain with self empowering actions. The last 15 years of research into fascia has opened up our ability to understand the healing process of the body. I am now trained in leading others through self care routines with Yoga Tune Up® , The Roll Model Method® and Melt Method®. My goals is to continue to be a student myself while creating a safe space where individuals can come and explore their body and its incredible healing capacity.

What is your favorite class to teach?
My favorite class to teach right now is Yoga Tune Up®. A YTU practice helps reveal how our bodies are naturally self healing organisms. When we couple that knowledge with compassion and awareness we can create and environment for change to impact our physical body, brain and nervous system.

What do you want every person to get out of your class?
My goal with every class is to teach something that ignites someone's curiosity. I think staying interested in what you do will keep you engaged in the practice. My favorite teaching experience is witnessing students acknowledge parts of their body, mind or belief system in a new way and integrate that into their class practice and ultimately life.

Where were you born and raised?
Aimi was born and raised in Gunma, Japan and moved to the United States in 1999.

How did you get started in health and fitness?
Her love for dancing began at a very young age, longer than she could remember and when she discovered group exercise classes for the first time in Japan, she knew her fitness journey was about to begin! She tried a variety of exercise formats, but Zumba gave her a different level of excitement and freedom to move while exercising, this inspired her to earn her Zumba instructor certification in 2015 and she's been teaching classes ever since at local gyms to include Gold Gym and World Gym. In 2017, she invested in additional training and earned her certification as a Group Exercise Instructor through Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA).
